Uniform Registration Numbers

What is a Uniform Registration Number (URN)?

A uniform registration number system exists for the benefit of manufacturers that sell products in the United States. This allows for only one registration number to be listed on the law label. All states either require or allow a state registration number to be printed on the law label. All states accept or have formally adopted the Uniform Registry Number System.

How do I ensure my URN remains valid?

In order for a Uniform Registry Number to be valid in All STATES, It must be current in the state where it was issued.

How do I obtain a URN?

  1. Obtain a Uniform Registration Number from one of the 14 states requiring a URN. Those states are:
    • California
    • Connecticut
    • Delaware
    • City of Detroit, Michigan
    • Massachusetts
    • New York
    • North Carolina
    • Ohio
    • Oklahoma
    • Pennsylvania
    • Rhode Island
    • Utah
    • Virginia
    • West Virginia
  2. Use that number to register with the other 13 states.

Note: As of September 1, 2015, Texas no longer requires a URN.
